One of the biggest advantages is the way the FB20 handles thermal fusion.

Instead of a traditional clip-on projecting its thermal display through the image intensifier, the FB20 overlays thermal imagery over the phosphor image. This reduces the risk of intensifier burn-in from the thermal display and allows the use of color thermal palettes.

You still get the environmental detail and depth perception of traditional image-intensified night vision, with thermal information overlaid directly into your view.
